At STK, we believe that food has the power to transform ordinary moments into extraordinary experiences.

Sawaddee Ka (Hi!) My name is Mary and I am so happy that you are here. I am a home cook, the face, and the recipe developer for Sticky Rice Thai Kitchen. Originally from Thailand, but now I am moving around with my military husband.

I moved to the United States in 2004 for college in Hawaii. During my college year, I had opportunities to work as a cook, a baker, a watermelon and vegetable carver who served more than 1,000 customers per day. People at the Polynesian Cultural Center, Hawaii remembered me as a lady who turned watermelon into roses lol!

While gaining my passion for teaching little children and getting a degree, my passion for cooking and baking also grew significantly.

I love helping people to feel loved and cared for through food. So far my friends, families, my students’ parents, and those who have tried my recipes feel that way so I hope you do too!

Why Sticky Rice Thai Kitchen?

I’m from the northeast of Thailand where our main carbohydrate is sticky rice or the glutinous rice. This is a great reminder for me that even with the last name changed and varieties of recipes that I am sharing here, I’m still an “Isan girl” meaning I’m from the northeast of Thailand.

What you will find on this blog

You will find mostly Thai and Asian food recipes on my website along with other easy recipes that I develop from my garden vegetables. This includes my Easy Fresh Tomato Soup with Smoked Gouda, Easy Fresh Tomato Chili, The Best Ever Tom Kha Gai Soup, No Fuss Bok Choy Stir Fry, and Authentic Pad Thai Recipe.

My vision is to encourage you to get cookin’ and bakin’ up homemade eats! I strongly believe even a simple meal whipped up by the most bootstrappin’ home cook beats out fancy restaurant grub.

Don’t get me wrong, goin’ out for a nice dinner date is fun once in a while! But between you and me, all those takeout meals after movin’ in with my hubby made my jeans feel a little tighter, lol!

So do yourself a favor—tie on that frilly apron, pump up the jams, and let your inner chef shine. Not only will home cookin’ save you calories and cash, you’ll feel darn proud servin’ up your own delicious vittles. Yum, pig out on that!
