How to store and reheat puff pastry?
Simply keep them in an airtight container and store in the fridge up to 2-3 days. If keeping for longer, tightly wrap individual pastry in aluminum foil, place in a ziplock or a container, and store in the freezer until ready to eat. I recommend that you finish eating it within a month.
To reheat, if taking it out from the fridge, you can microwave it for about 20 – 30 seconds. If taking it out of the freezer, bake a foil wrapped pastry in the oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for about 10 minutes.
Turkey Cranberry Pinwheels
Equipment
Ingredients
- 2 puff pastry sheets store bought or homemade
- 12-16 oz cream cheese or the whipped cream cheese
- 2 tbsp pure maple syrup
- 2 tbsp milk optional
- 1 ½ cups cranberry sauce
- 18 slices Turkey deli meat or leftover turkey
- 1 egg for egg brush
Instructions
Make the Cream Cheese Spread
- If you use the store bought puff pastry sheet, take it out of the freezer to thaw in the room temperature before hand as well as the cream cheese to soften.Beat the cream cheese using a fork or an electronic mixer. Add pure maple syrup to taste and make it easier to spread. Optionally, add 1-2 table spoons of milk too. However, if you use the store bought whipped cream cheese , simply mix with the maple syrup. No need to beat or fluff the cream cheese. It does makes it easier.
Spread and Add the Filling
- Dust the working surface with some flour. Roll the pastry dough out. Spread the whipped cream cheese on the pastry sheet. Then spread the cranberry sauce over the cream cheese.
- Arrange the deli turkey slices to cover the cream cheese and cranberry sauce. Then roll the dough as tight as you can into a log.
Cut, Brush, Chill, Bake, and Enjoy!
- Cut the rolled pastry into pinwheels about 1/2 inch thick.
- Beat and egg and brush it over the pastry.
- Chill the pastry in the fridge or the freezer for about 10 minutes. Meanwhile, pre-heat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Bake the pinwheels for about 20 -25 minutes or until golden brown. I suggest that you start checking to see the browning starts happening after the first 15 minutes as not all oven are made equal, it but took my oven 25 minutes for pastries that have more wet fillings. They also taste better cold. Enjoy!
